About Me.

Hi, my name is Amy Hackman Stefanko and I am the sole proprietor of Sycamore Child & Family Counseling, LLC, serving Georgia and soon Florida. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 28 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adult women who struggle with anxiety, ADHD, mood disorders, low self-esteem, relationship issues, and parenting difficulties. I also enjoy helping people explore how they may embrace their faith to combat various daily challenges and to live a more positive, peaceful life. I am now offering online telehealth services to older teens and adult women, as well as parents who would like guidance in navigating successful interactions with their children.

I received my MSW in 1996 from Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, Massachusetts and completed a fellowship at The Yale Child Study Center in New Haven, Connecticut, where I was able to work extremely challenging cases as part of a first-rate, multi-disciplinary team. I then continued to work on the East Coast on one of the most well respected trauma teams in the area. I finally headed home to the Midwest, and to a private practice, where I had the privilege of working with many families and their children providing individual, family, parent-guidance, and group psychotherapy. I also provided faith-based counseling upon request.

As a relationship-based, psychodynamic therapist, I learn my clients’ strengths, not just emotionally and intellectually, but sensory as well. I then help them to create coping strategies based on those strengths, a technique that works powerfully—and authentically—to accomplish their goals.

I want clients to know that choosing therapy to address particular personal issues is a brave and powerful choice. I always feel honored and humbled to be part of the therapeutic process. As a therapist, I feel it is extremely important to start where my clients “are” and to establish a nurturing, safe environment in which they can express, examine, wonder, and grow. Through this process, clients are able to make appropriate choices based on who they are and who they are meant to be. I look forward to meeting you!

Other Interests: Horses, dogs, animal rescue, nutrition, integrative medicine, all forms of art, reading.

Meet Amy Hackman Stefanko, LCSW

Most of us have ideas on what we would like to change, but can struggle with the implementation of how to make that happen. I would like to help you examine those road blocks by looking closely at your own strengths, perceptions, and narratives. From there, I will help you create a plan to tackle the challenges you face and to grow towards the person you want to be.  Choosing therapy is a brave choice and I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with you.
